Our trip in Rio is almost over, and we have had the most amazing time...we dont want to leave! There were a few bumps - we went to Sugar loaf to see the amazing view of Rio from atop, and as the cable car takes off, we go into complete fog, and never come out...oh well. We went to Cristo today though, which was a more dramatic view of the city, and the statue itself is absoultely amazing up close...
The nightlife here is amazing - one night we met up with a carioca friend of ours and he took us to this bohemian hole in the wall place in Lapa, where everybody there was either a musician or actor (we were haning out with some famous actor who kept getting his picture taken), with live forro music. The experience was unparalleled to anything I have ever seen, sort of like a Brazilian Berkeley, and the people were all so happy, smiling and giving the thumbs up sign all the time (everybody does the thumbs up here, I mean everybody, and for everything). Last night we went to the chic part of town, Leblon, and danced all night to house music. During the day we were in Santa Teresa, which is in part of a favela but is considered rather safe...and as were walking donw one of the cobblestoned streets kim runs into a brazilian model she worked with in Miami before. So tonight were going out with her and all her friends!!
Thats all for now!

We have caught the carioca bug!!!
So it is day three for Kim an me in Rio - and we are in love with Brazil! Yesterday we went to a soccer game - flamenco vs. botofago (we have decided we are flamencos), in the largest stadium in the world. The drive there alone was fascinating, cutting through rios huge mountains and driving through the "other side" of the city, i.e. the favelas. The energy in the stadium was unlike anything we had ever experienced...as if there was a huge pulse that never stopped throught the entire game - everybody stomping and singing, with their hands high in the air clapping to a beat, waving huge flags. There was a crazy guy next to us that would scream puta every 10 secons, jumping out of his seat and looking like he was about to explode.
The day before we went to a traditional carioca concert, the singer was nando reis, and we are both in love! I dont think there was a single foreigner there either, which is always the best.
Thats about it so far. Today we are hiking pao de azucar, and hopefully the rest of the trip will be all aobut sammmmbbaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay tuned...photos to come soon!
